The youngsters who took part in the annual Summer Basketball Camp in late June experienced something old — Alumni Gym, built in 1926 — and something new: the gym's fresh new maple floor, installed just weeks before along with new bleachers and scoreboards.
The 80 boys and girls, grades one through eight, were the first to use the freshened facility.
They also experienced something cool: Twin brothers Marcus Delpeche ’17 and Malcolm Delpeche ’17, Bobcat standouts and fan favorites during their Bates days, co-directed the camp with their former head coach, Jon Furbush '05.
Professional ballplayers now, the twins played in Europe last season and will do so again this season, Marcus in England and Malcolm in Germany.
Graham Safford ’15 was also on hand, plus current players Brandon Galloway ’19 of Fort Washington, Md., and Thomas Coyne ’20 of Falmouth, Maine, plus former camper Vinnie Hanrahan.
In these photos, Marcus wears a black cap, Malcolm a garnet one.
